Experience:
David has more than 15 years experience at BP in support of operational units. He provided specialist technical services to North Sea and Middle East operational drilling units on rock mechanics issues, particularly mechanical wellbore stability issues. Work with other disciplines included sand production prediction, and in-situ stress determination for enhanced reservoir exploitation. Through pioneering work into the physical means by which water enters the formation during secondary oil recovery, and through conducting injection field tests at wellsites worldwide, his team altered the way in which BP developed reservoir waterflood programs.
Latterly, he was the coordinator of BP's worldwide wells performance management and benchmarking activities (where the annual spend was more than $2 billion). He acted as internal and external point-of-contact for the company's UK drilling and well service operations, and represented BP on panels to shape industry studies. During this time he developed guidelines for best practice in performance and benchmarking.
David left BP in 1999 to set up his own consulting company.
Since then, through his client consulting companies, he has conducted reviews of almost 100 major projects worldwide in the hydrocarbon exploration and production sector, from small subsea tie-back projects to onshore and offshore megaprojects, in many areas of the world.
He has also facilitated several front-end loading and value improving practice workshops for clients in the upstream and nuclear industries, and has led research studies, data analysis, process reviews, and product development for client companies.
